Rabbi Michael Bernstein

Rabbi Bernstein welcomes you to Congregation Gesher L'Torah, a vibrant and dynamic Synagogue community where Judaism is personal and each person's story is embraced. Michael Bernstein was ordained as a conservative Rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York in 1999 and came to GLT in 2009 to serve as spiritual leader. He has always had a special interest in finding new ways to experience the ancient and timeless wisdom of our tradition in contemporary and impactful ways. For Rabbi Bernstein, the most important goal of a synagogue community is to foster a meaningful connection to being Jewish for every participant, whether in religious services, marking significant moments in life, or in getting together with family or friends. Rabbi Bernstein and his wife Tracie along with children Ayelet, Yaron and Liana look forward to seeing you at GLT in the near future!

Rebecca Gordon, Education Director

Rebecca Gordon has been the Director of Education at Congregation Gesher L'Torah for over 14 years.  As the daughter of a Holocaust Survivor, her early years were built on family, strength, religion, and community. Her strong love for Jewish education and traditions play a very important part of her life at home and at work.  After receiving a Masters in Social Work and Jewish Community Relations, Rebecca began creating and planning educational programs for children and adults of all ages.  Her passion for teaching blossomed in the classroom and has grown even bigger as a Education Director, a board member of the Jewish Educators Assembly, a 2nd generation Holocaust speaker, and a member of the Jewish Education Collaborative.  Rebecca has lived in Atlanta, GA for 24 years with her husband, Stuart and their two children (Zach and Zoe).

Doug Konkel, Executive Director

A fixture in the Gesher L’Torah offices since 2006, Doug Konkel has been witness to and participant in the amazing growth of the synagogue through a significant portion of its existence. He was first drawn to this remarkable community when he and his wife, Laura (North Fulton’s most outstanding pediatrician), were searching for a preschool for their two formerly small boys, Ben and Sam. Doug’s responsibilities are quite a long list, but that makes him the perfect starting point for any questions about GLT. He strives to help all of our members honor their Jewish heritage in their own individual way, but, being the non-Jewish half of an interfaith marriage, he is especially dedicated towards helping those involved in similar relationships navigate the complexities and joys particular to them. Doug was born in Alabama and raised in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and is still learning to enjoy the beauty of New York accents.

Hannah Zale, Program Director

Hannah Zale has served as a Jewish educator, Song Leader, Programmer, Camp Assistant Director, Youth Director, and mentor in the Atlanta Jewish community since she graduated from the University of Georgia in 2013. She has a passion for helping people try new things, empowering others to become leaders in their community (and beyond), and believes in joyful Judaism and creating a Kehillah Kadosha! In the fall of 2021, Hannah joined the Gesher L’ Torah team full-time, and will serve in a new position as the Program Director. We hope you and your family look forward to Hannah’s unique and fun social programs initiative, called Gesher Kesher, that is implemented in virtual and in-person programming. Hannah truly desires to become a familiar friendly face that all GLT members can come to about anything. To Hannah Zale, it is all about kesher (connection). Hannah will also manage community outreach, cultivating meaningful partnerships with other organizations, managing member recruitment and engagement, and finding resources to support GLT’s mission and culture throughout the community. Hannah is also an expert in creating music culture in Jewish spaces, serving as a Song Leader and loves leading meaningful music programs throughout the community.
